Solo show with Good Weather, Chicago & North Little Rock
    May – June, 2019

Good Weather is excited to present Come On Dun Horse by artist Matt Siegle. The show marks Siegle’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, on view at Hamtramck Ceramck (at Portage Garage) in Hamtramck, Michigan, a municipality encompassed by the city of Detroit. The exhibition opens May 18, 2019, and is on view until July 6, 2019, with open hours from 1-4 pm on Saturdays, or by appointment ([email protected]).

Comprised of new paintings and sculptures, Come On Dun Horse builds upon a body of work that desires to queer the pathos of the American West. The sculptures in the exhibition are mixed-media outgrowths of this staid body, drawing from Siegle’s field research between the Mississippi River and the Sierra Nevada. Four wall-based works anchor the exhibition on a directional compass inverted and positioned thirty degrees askew from the true cardinal directions. Two floor-based sculptures allude to transportation and resources, particularly in regards to water. Referring to sign posts and fountains, the sculptures are markers and wells for the outcast who ferrets through the rifts and fissures of the land.

Continuing Siegle’s conceptually driven approach to materials and sources, selected paintings in Come On Dun Horse originate from the designs of calling cards and advertisements from country-western gay bars of the 1980s and 90s. Emphasizing an innuendo of coded language associated with yesteryear queer culture, the compositions present ulterior interpretations of classic stereotypes, at once earnest in their camp and human in their motivation for connection.

Solo presentation with Good Weather, Chicago & North Little Rock
    February, 2019

Following a three-person exhibition presented at Vernon Gardens (Los Angeles) and leading towards a forthcoming solo exhibition in Detroit, Good Weather is pleased to participate in Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC) with a solo presentation by Matt Siegle in booth F11 at The Barker Hangar.
Siegle will create a new installation encompassing the protean nature of his work with paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photographs. Selected paintings are from a continuing series that draws reference to the culturally-coded vernacular of Western gay bars and their printed ephemera. Sculptures present themselves as allegorical forms comprised of scavenged and imperceptibly combined materials—a décollage of the landscape through which the artist physically traverses. Additionally, the artist will present a new series of drawings that serve as a meditation on looking and place, created plein air during Siegle’s serpentine travels. In total, the work represents the mutation of specific conceptual practices and geographic pathways related to the American landscape.

A VIP preview commences Wed, Feb 13, 2019 from 2–9 pm, and public hours follow on Thu, Feb 14–Fri, Feb 15, 2019 from 11 am–6 pm, Sat, Feb 16, 2019 from 11 am–7 pm, and Sun, Feb 17, 2019 from 11 am–6 pm.
